Jason Sidwell live

For those at a loose end in early august, come and see GB tutor Jason Sidwell play in Bath in two different funk fusion lineups.

The first date is on monday 3rd august at The Bell, 103 Walcot Street, Bath, BA1 5BW (9pm start) and the second is Wednesday 5th august at Moles, George Street, Bath, BA1 2EN (8pm start).

The former is a trio setting (gtr, bass and drums) while the latter will feature opening guitarist, Tristan Seume (ACM acoustic guitar tutor and recording soloist) before the main band featuring Jason and John Wheatcroft (head of guitar at Guitar-X and ‘Guitar Techniques’ writer) on guitar. Drums will be courtesy of Colin Woolway (‘Rhythm’ writer) and James Hester (head of drums at BIMM Bristol, Malakai) and the low end courtesy of bassist, Paul Francis (Paul Weller, James Taylor Quartet).

For both nights, expect lots of chords and notes piled on top of great grooves. Keyboards and vocals are barred. Repertoire spans from Stevie Wonder and Larry Carlton to Anita Baker and Kylie Minogue. Go figure!

Guthrie Govan weekend NOW available

We announced on Twitter a few weeks ago that we were working on a new Guitar Break weekend with Guthrie Govan and we are proud to say that we have now put it live on the Events page.

We have billed an exclusive event that focuses on the intermediate and advancing players whilst giving an insight into the world of Guthrie, which, believe us, is something quite mind expanding.

Entitled, ‘Rock Development – The Essentials’, here's what can be expected...

"Over the course of this special weekend, you will be introduced to the essential techniques favoured by rock giants such as Gary Moore, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert.

Picking, legato, tapping and whammy bar abuse will all come under the spotlight as well as a thorough grounding in theory and application. With plenty of jam sessions and inside pro tips, Rock Development is aimed at intermediate and advancing players looking to add taste, sophistication and speed to their playing.

As a special bonus, guitarist extraordinaire, Guthrie Govan will perform and discuss tracks from his critically acclaimed and jaw dropping album, Erotic Cakes! Book today to avoid disappointment!"

We are very happy to announce that Guthrie Govan will be joining us again for an exclusive Guitar Break weekend this October. Every single event that we have done with Guthrie has been one to remember and this one will be no different.

We will announce the date first on our Guitar Break Twitter page which already has a fantastic following. Why not join us?

Also, later this year, Dave Kilminster will be with us in Guildford for his Blues Rock Weekend and we can't wait. Check out Dave's website here for more on a truly outstanding player www.davekilminster.com

Guthrie and Wheatie on the GT stand at LIMS

From www.guitar-techniques.com

Guitar Techniques friend and longtime contributor Guthrie Govan will be popping onto our stand at LIMS (ExCel, London‘s Docklands, 11–14 June) for some impromptu playing. Already there demoing for Rotosound Strings Guthrie told us today that he‘d love to nip over to us for “a bit of GT action“...

We have no idea what he will play, but as it‘s Guthrie we‘re sure that jaws will be dropping all round. Make sure you check him out on the Rotosound stand too.

John Wheatcroft, another awesome player will also be dropping by, gypsy jazz acoustic in hand. John says he‘d love to play some Django inspired pieces and maybe give a little tutorial on this fascinating and fiery style. John‘s a truly killer picker!

Editor Neville Marten will be there all four days and may well be getting up with Guitarist editor Mick Taylor for a ‘bit of a blues bash‘...
